Seeking blog posts that discuss the issues and questions that athletes are facing right now is one of my challenges at this time of year. Summer is a time for athletes to set targets and improve their health and success. We will also be dreaming about indoor fitness and the Holiday Season in a couple weeks. And we will all be gearing up for another fantastic season in January. However, there is not as much of a shared thread linking endurance athletes together during these few weeks at the end of October and the beginning of November. Some of you are preparing for cyclocross races, while others are concentrating on the end of a tough season, while even some are focused on skills and foundation construction.

This week, I have planned to compile a collection of posts from various CTS Coaches. I am sure you can find at least one that resonates with you, your ambitions, and your passions in endurance exercise and fitness as you browse through the list below. Adam Pulford’s article on Pua Mata’s power files from last month’s La Ruta de los Conquistadores race especially amazed me.

CTS Coach Adam Pulford provides a power analysis and race report for 2013 La Ruta Champion Pua Mata. Adam is one of the most knowledgeable coaches when it comes to using power meters to improve mountain bike performance. He was in Costa Rica to sponsor our team of CTS Athletes competing in La Ruta, and he now has this detailed study on Pua’s strength figures.

CTS Coaches Colin Izzard and Jim Rutberg created the Power Burst Workout: The Speed You Need for a Great Swim. A burst of speed is needed at times during every triathlete’s swim. This exercise will ensure that you have it when you need it the most.

CTS Coach Jim Rutberg discusses working around post-competition blues. This post was originally written for Ironman triathletes, but it applies to all endurance sports. After you have successfully reached your target case, there is an emotional letdown. When you face it head on, you will soon get back on track.

CTS Coach Daniel Matheny’s Cyclocross Training: Mastering the Fundamentals of Dismounts/Remounts. Daniel did an excellent job collaborating with me on this instructional post on dismounting and remounting the bike during a cyclocross meet. There is a lot more to ‘cross than this, but for beginners, this is the most important thing to do.

By CTS Premier Coach Jason Koop: Gut Check: Techniques to Save Your Gut From Ending Your Race Early. Jason is a specialist when it comes to training teams for — and helping athletes through — long competitions, having completed more than a dozen 100-mile ultramarathons and coaching rising star Dakota Jones.
